G blues is made of G, B♭, C, D♭, D and F, with D♭ as the blue note. The open G and D strings fit, and box 1 starts at the 3rd fret of the low E string. A blues in G usually runs on G7, C7 and D7, which all have open-position shapes on guitar.
The G blues scale has six notes: G – B♭ – C – D♭ – D – F. It is the G minor pentatonic plus one note, D♭: the blue note, between C and D, which gives it the blues sound.
Tip: Hammer on from the C at the 3rd fret of the A string to the D♭ at the 4th, then resolve to the open D string.
