Start a song with what you have

  1. 1 Create a project with a working song title.
  2. 2 Record your idea or import a recording from your iPhone.
  3. 3 Open a note, write your first lines and insert the melody beside them.

Catch the idea before the writing session

A guitar phrase after rehearsal, a vocal melody on the way home, a rhythm you want to try later: record it in the song project. Give the take a name that tells you what to listen for, such as ‘chorus — higher ending’. Add a short note about the next thing you want to try.

Write lyrics with the melody in reach

When you sit down to write, open a note in that project. You can record directly inside the note or insert an existing recording beside the relevant lines. Listen while you change the words, record another melody and compare the phrasing. The lyric and the sound stay part of the same song.

Bring the song to your co-writer

Put the demo and working lyric in the project, then invite your collaborator with a code. Choose an editor or viewer role according to how you want to work together. A bandmate can join from Android or the browser, so the group can use the devices they already have.

Record without opening the app

  • The «Record idea» widget on your Home Screen, small, medium or large: tap the mic and it records; tap again and it stops.
  • Also from Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button (iPhone 15 Pro and later), even with your iPhone locked.
  • While you record, you see the time and «Stop» on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
  • The idea uploads itself to your «Ideas» project when you open Zoundroom. You need iOS 18 or later.
How to record without opening the app
An iPhone home screen with the Zoundroom widgets: a medium one with Write and Record buttons and your latest ideas, and two small ones to write or record an idea with one tap.

Rhymes above the keyboard

  • Finish a line and rhymes for the one that needs a pair come up above the keyboard. One tap and they are in the lyric.
  • The ones that fit the syllable count carry a dot.
  • Free, offline and in 7 languages.
How rhymes work
A lyric open in the Zoundroom app with a row of rhymes above the keyboard; the words that fit the line are marked with a dot.

Chords over the lyrics, with sound

  • Tap a chord in the bar and it stays over its syllable. Tap it in the lyric and it plays on guitar, piano or ukulele.
  • It plays even when your iPhone is on silent, because you asked for it.
  • With play mode, the lyric scrolls on its own at the tempo of the song.
How chords work
A lyric with chords above the words, the Key, Capo and Play header, and the chord bar above the keyboard.
